Imagining the rain – II “Sasti, sundar, tikau baarish”

Nana Patekar can be a boor at the worst of times, but when he is at his best there are few that can rival him as a raconteur. This clip is a dialog from his movie ‘Thodasa Roomani Ho Jaaye” where he tries to ‘sell’ rain to a drought hit town. He also recites a few other lines after that – interspersed with the kind of Marathi that I love hearing. Today when talk of rain was all around me in office, I remembered this. Plus, for added symbolism, his son’s name happens to be Malhar.

Granted rain right now will most likely worsen an already grim agrarian situation, but I can continue thinking about it on my blog at least.

Straw camel back

Deep down in the dumps for various reasons ranging from continuing terror news around the world, spending 22 hours with bigoted sexist passengers on a train journey, despair at the utter mean-mindedness of a certain government’s methods of celebrating good governance, ‘science’, and various other moves that are taking the joy out of having moved back home at long last, and a couple of other dark demons that will continue to haunt for awhile. In other words, the zeitgeist is distinctly gloomy and unenthusiastic about most things.

Right now, the heart has settled somewhere near the ankles like two leaden weights with the news that Sonam Kapoor is slated to play the lead in the movie adaptation of my cherished Battle for Bittora đŸ˜¦ No doubt, Fawad Khan can be relied upon to do justice to Zain Altaf Khan, but Sonam as Jini Pande? I missed watching Khoobsurat because wasn’t too enthused about having to sit through Sonam’s histrionics that annoy me no end and I have no idea about the kind of chemistry that these two actors managed to muster between them. Zain and Jini are nothing if not crackling chemistry. Of the kind that makes you put the book down to catch your breath and has turned so many women I know into faithful Anuja Chauhan groupies forevaahh. Though I personally think her other books while nice, don’t quite stack up the way BFB does. Also, this news apparently has been floating for sometime now, but I just chanced upon it only today after someone retweeted Sonam’s recent Instagram update.

There is nothing else to do, but to go home and reach for that packet of Maggi Noodles.
